ABOUT THE YOUNG ADULT BOOK:
This month’s title is falls into the southern gothic tradition with sapphic love interests. This alternates between two perspectives. One girl is a wood witch who spends her days taking care of her mother who has turned monstrous because of magic gone wrong. She is terrified that her mother may be the cause of the girls disappearing from the town’s surrounding forest. The other young woman tries to solve the mystery of her sister’s disappearance which leads her to the wood witch. While one tries to figure out how, why and where her sister disappeared, the other tries to prevent her from getting too close to her mother. But what if the mother isn’t monster they believe? What if something else has caused the forest to turn angry and the magic to turn foul? Why are girls disappearing in the woods and how is it connected to her mother’s nightly monstrous transformation and the land’s growing rage?
